Day 4 Palm Cove / Cairns Zoo / Hartley's Crocodile Farm

Palm Cove Beach - Scout Island

Breakfast with a zoo-keeper.

Maternity Ward at Cairns Zoo

Cuddly Koala

On our 4th day, we took several excursions.  If we were to do it all over again, I would make a few modifications.  We booked through a local travel agent that had a pick-up at the hotel in the AM to take us to the zoo - the ride was late - we missed part of our breakfast with a zoo-keeper and we only had 2 1/2 hours at the zoo.  Unless you are a zoo-lover and this is the only opportunity that you will have to pet a koala, then I would say that zoo is "skipable."  The kids and I liked our time here - mostly spent gazing at the fuzzy koalas hanging quietly in their sanctuary - but there are so many opportunities to see many of these wonderful animals in nature.

The afternoon portion of our trip on the other hand was entertaining, exciting, and educational.  It also made my children and I a little "too aware" of where Louis Vuitton handbags come from - Hartley's Crocodile Farm.  We enjoyed it because we learned a great deal about the Australian saltwater crocodile - it gave us a healthy appreciation of being aware near the ocean and tributaries.
By the age of 3 - all of these crocodiles will be "harvested."

We did not know how far a crocodile could leap out of the water.

A carnivorous bird - eating raw meat.
